Composition of CCG boards - an update

An opposition amendment in the House of Lords to the government's proposals for regulations on the mandatory composition of CCG boards to exclude local councillors and nurses and doctors who work for local providers looks set to fail, since Liberal Democrat peers have U-turned on their promise to back the amendment, Health Service Journal reports.

A change in the rules would have come at a late stage in CCG's development although many are reported to be still seeking members. The rules on CCG governing bodies are set in regulations laid before Parliament in July.

Of interest are last week's reports by Health Service Journal that the forthcoming Care And Support Act will force CCGs to share part of their budgets with local authorities to bring about integrated commissioning. Integrated local commissioning budgets for health and social care is a Liberal Democrat policy objective.
