What can I do for you?

I am a commercial and procurement lawyer in our commercial health team. I work mainly with our healthcare clients, to put in place robust contractual arrangements across a wide range of goods and services. With over ten years’ experience of advising the health sector, I have particular expertise in clinical services contracting. This includes a thorough understanding of primary medical and dental services and services under the NHS standard contract. My work involves drafting and negotiating contract terms, along with advising on all aspects of public procurement law. I also regularly advise on the application and interpretation of NHS legislation and policy.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

The recent NHS reforms presented a huge challenge for our clients. Since the introduction of CCGs in April, I have been assisting CCG clients with issues such as the new conflict of interest rules and complying with the new procurement, patient choice and competition regulations.

Another key area of my work involves helping NHS clients to resolve procurement issues, most commonly potential challenges from unsuccessful bidders. One particularly interesting and complex case involved concerns raised by bidders about the procurement of a multimillion-pound contract. We worked closely with our client to review the process and were able to guide them through the risks and options available to them. We succeeded in allaying the concerns of the bidders, and our client awarded the contract without challenge.

What do others say?

In relation to our health teams, Legal 500 says that clients find the firm to be a "valuable and effective partner" with a "very good understanding of the business context". Clients describe our health team as "responsive and professional, providing focused advice against pressurised timescales".

What else should you know?

I am a regular speaker at the legal update seminars we provide to our healthcare clients, speaking on a range of topics from procurement through to the consultation duty and contractual issues. I have also spoken at a King's Fund seminar about the impact of EU competition law on the NHS.
